What is it about triathletes that makes them jump in freezing cold oceans with sharks or wake up at the butt crack of dawn to train and race? Why do we push our bodies beyond the limit or spend thousands of dollars on fancy carbon fiber? And what is up with all the spandex... honestly.
There is truly something special about our triathlon community. Not only do we train hard and balance school and jobs and family.... we have a real passion for life. Triathletes don’t understand words like “CAN’T” or phrases like “You want me to do what?” Here at UC Davis Triathlon, we embrace the work hard play hard mantra. We just do it in the pool, on the bike and on the trails. Our tri family likes to create our own paths and to embrace each challenge with great enthusiasm.
This new year, let’s make a pact. Let’s promise to train harder and race smarter.  Let’s promise to party it up with new and old friends. Let’s promise to take risks and set new challenges for ourselves. Most importantly, let’s promise to share not only the sport of triathlon with others, but to share the spirit of it as well.
So on behalf of the race committee and my teammates here in Cow-Town, we look forward to seeing you all in February!
